There have been more than 60 Plowshares
actions. The first took place on September 9, 1980, when Philip and Daniel
Berrigan and six others hammered on nuclear nose cones at a General Electric
plant in King of Prussia, Penn. Phil Berrigan, Crane and Kelly were members
of the Prince of Peace Plowshares, which disarmed an Aegis destroyer at
the Bath [Maine] Iron Works on February 12, 1997. After Rev. Kelly served
his sentence for the Maine action and refused to cooperate with federal
probation, he managed to avoid arrest and engage in another act of resistance
to the nuclear menace.
